NSK Corporation's Franklin plant is located in a tranquil environment, surrounded by farmland. The plant is striving to protect this valuable natural environment.
Waste Reduction and Recycling
The plant separates waste into detailed categories - including cardboard, paper waste, wooden pallets, used grinding stones, plastics, grinding swarf, scrap steel, grease, toner cartridges, aluminum cans, used cutting tools, and general waste - for recycling. This recycling initiative was launched in 2002, and in March 2010 the plant has achieved a 96.9% recycling rate. In future, this target will be set even higher.
Reducing Electricity Consumption
The plant has worked to reduce electricity consumption by reducing the amount of use of compressed air, regular maintenance of machinery, and adjusting air conditioner settings. These measures have been successful in reducing electricity consumption per product unit, as well as overall CO2 emissions.
Reducing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
New mist collector
Additionally, the introduction of a new mist collector has led to an improvement in plant air quality, as well as reducing external emission of VOCs.
Reducing Wastewater
The plant is currently working to reuse water from the manufacturing processes. This has resulted in a reduction of 5000 gallons per month in water usage and drainage.
